Tweet for Peace. #PeaceDay21Sep

One of the reasons I have such a soft spot for nonprofits and social media is that social media allows anyone to make an impact. Many people feel their efforts are insignificant if they don’t have enough money or enough time. Not with social media! Helping a nonprofit spread its mission and encourage others to take action is making an impact without opening your wallet. It’s legit.
My radar is always on to see how nonprofits are leveraging social media. There are many causes and a great deal of outreach needed and with the amount of clutter online, it can be challenging to gain attention. When I see campaigns containing simple and uncomplicated copy and little effort, my radar goes BAZINGA!
I’d like to share with you this creative and meaningful campaign for Peace Day, which is Sept. 21. Every year Peace Day’s goal is to reserve a day of non-violence and global truce. A Lap Around the World
Use your social media tools for social good:
- Tweet with #PeaceDay21Sep and add your impact to the map.
- Encourage your fans on Twitter and Facebook.
- Make a video about why peace is important to you and use #PeaceDay21Sep.
- Write a blog post.
- Add #PeaceDay21Sep to your email signature
- Create a “peace” board on Pinterest and use #PeaceDay21Sep in your pins’ descriptions.
Don’t feel obligated to do any of the above. This post’s purpose what to share a campaign that caught my interest and offer ways to get involved if you were interested. Enjoy!
3 Things I Liked in Social Media, Week ending Sept. 2.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day weekend! I’ve spent the weekend catching up with friends, grabbing sunlight and sipping cool drinks. Couldn’t ask for more.
Even though it’s Labor Day weekend and I shouldn’t be “working.” I actually don’t feel like I am laboring when I write this post because I love what I do and can talk “shop” for hours.
1. Dinn Dinn mobile app for foodies – Share the food you love, the food you dislike and make friends (i.e. tastebuds). The profile you create is a reflection of your taste in food. Are you a noodle house type of person? Slow and low BBQ? This mobile app is new but worth keeping an eye on!
2. 10 companies that nail their taglines – “Just Do It,” “It melts in your mouth. Not in your hand.” Both great taglines that have become household names. This story makes the list because it gets me thinking about what my tagline should be. As bloggers and/or small business owners, tag lines matter us too. Of all the people we meet at conferences and Twitter chats, having a compelling tagline matters.
What is or would be your tagline?
3. Pinterest is, well…pinning – Pinterest is practicing what it preaches. Get an inside look at their HQ digs and staff, funky staff hairstyles, furry friends and interesting pins.
Pinterest’s Updated Re-Pinning Experience
Posted by allison n
Have you noticed Pinterest’s updated user experience with repinning?
The updated user experience seems a little bit more elevated and stream-lined. Here’s what I discovered:
- When you click the “re-pin” button, the pinned image does a double-flip fly-out to the center of your screen.
- The box to update the blurb for your pin is on the bottom. Previously, it was on the right side of the image.
- After you re-pin, Pinterest gives you the option of viewing other Pinterest boards that particular pin lives on. I am not sure what algorithm Pinterest is using to feed us those boards though. It could be based on number of followers, number of total pins etc.
Could this be the beginning of more Pinterest enhancements? Will some of my Pinterest wish list items be fulfilled?!
