I Want More From Pinterest

It’s no secret that Pinterest is on fire right now! I’ll openly admit, if I need to kill time I’ll hop-on Pinterest and feed my boards some content by pinning and repinning. I can’t enough. I’m always finding new content to pin and “like.” Do you feel the same way?

At the end of the day, though, I want more out of Pinterest.

Dear Pinterest,

Here’s my wish list…

1. The ability to embed boards, whole boards, into blog posts or websites and have them automatically update when I add new content. Embedding a single pin is one thing, but I want to showcase more.
2. Allow me to create follower lists. I follow brands, friends and thought-leaders; segmenting those I follow will make it easier for me to keep track of new pins and boards.
3. Analytics. I’m talking graphs where I can see peaks, valleys and data points! I have no clue how many times a particular board has been viewed or how many times one of my pins has been repinned or “liked.” I am surprised this isn’t a feature. For brands and professional bloggers, this type of information is important in measuring performance.
4. A more robust search function. I want Pinterest search to be on a granular level. For example, searching by city, zip code and/or radius. This will help me connect to Pinners in my community. Pinterest should check out Twitter’s advanced search form.
5. Private Boards. I may be brainstorming on a personal project and/or trying to keep creative ideas under-wraps. Get with it, Pinterest! We can do private posts on our Facebook Timeline and on Google+, we may as well be able to create private boards.

I would love to hear your Pinterest wishes! Please share in the comments below.

  1. I’ve been very happy with Pinterest, but now that you mention it, I would also like to see all of the things you’ve mentioned. The private board thing has crossed my mind before. That would be sweet.

Not sure if you’ve seen this, but I saw this post and find it helpful. http://www.momcomm.com/2012/02/how-to-see-if-your-content-is-pinned-on-pinterest/

    • Thanks for visiting, Jenn! Thank you for sharing the link too. Unfortunately, the “www.pinterest.com/source/NAME” makes you look at each individual pin rather than an analytics dashboard. If you have over 400 pins…yipes! I would love a full-on dashboard where I can see analytics…kind of like a Google Analytics for Pinterest. Hopefully one day. :)

  2. Thank you so much for the post, it was interesting reading.

  3. Great ideas for Pinterest. I spend hours a week over there!

  4. Great points and, I agree, those are all qualities I’d like as well. I’m hoping that because Pinterest is still really young those will all come as the product grows and matures.

  5. we need coffee – so much to discuss and talk about! I hope it grows and evolves and becomes everything other social media outlets aren’t!

  6. You are a genius. I pine for that wish list of added features on pinterest (my addiction).

I hope you send this to them!!

  7. Great points on all of this – I definitely hear you on #2 and #4. I would love to be able to segment by lists – esp. bc I follow brands, friends, etc. too!

Here’s hoping they implement some of these ideas.

  8. Thanks for posting this Allison!
Pinterest is taking the world by storm but you are right, there are several things they should be doing and others they should be doing better.
I like the idea of lists. With so many things to pin, it’s hard to keep topics organized.
One more thing I would like to see, is an easy way (drag & drop) to edit or rearrange boards. My Food & Drinks board is insane; I love food. I would like to separate it into different boards, but the task is daunting since there are so many pins there. Along these same lines it would be nice to pin stuff in more than one place, i.e. should Valentines cookies be pinned under Holiday Ideas or Sweets?
    Keep up the great work.

    Thanks again,
    Miriam

  9. I am so behind! Need to learn how to use pinterest before I can come up with a wish list :)

  10. I definitely want private pin boards and also character limit on pins so people aren’t posting my entire post in the description!

  11. Great ideas Allison and I’d love to see many of those features! Have you sent them over to Pinterest? I bet they would love the feedback and hopefully these are all things that are in the works!

  12. I want all of this and more – could pinterest compensate for the time I spend on it – time credits please ;)

  13. I use Clipix.com for private boards…usually business/marketing stuff or my blog post ideas for later – things I don’t want to share. :)
    Great list!!!
